Complete and erect North side wall frame (West end)
The wall frame for the western half of the North side wall will be completed and erected into position today.
Remember to take photographs during the day to record construction progress.
The steps taken to achieve this will be:
Once the window position is set, allow 10 mm on each side for the first stud positions. Use 45 mm studs. The first studs will sit under the lintel the second the lintel will butt into.
Mark both stud positions on the bottom plate and only the outer
stud positions on the top plate.

The bottom plate has no studs across the length of the window. The top plate studs are at 450 mm centres. Mark with pencil. David

Put studs into place. Do not put the inner lintel bearing stud in yet. Check. And 45mm ones for windows. Compare the heights of the new wall where it will join the existing wall to ensure they are the same.
Nail studs. Use grease
Measure cut and fit noggins.
Measure head for above window allowing 20mm gap above window.
Cut lintel to length and put into place. Cut inner 45 stud.
Check all measurements and fits.
Cut head for above window allowing 20mm gap above window to butt join into inner stud.
Nail in place Use grease.
Fit studs above lintel.
Once wall completed select metal bracing.
Lay left bracing in of V shape on frame. Mark with pencil. Remove bracing.
Cut bracing sections and chisel out. Don't fit bracing yet.
Raise wall and slide in to place. Check the top plate is not too long. If it is too long estimate how much needs to be trimmed off. Pull frame back and use ladder to cut top plate to length. Slide wall back into place.
Hold securely in place.
Skew nail ends of plates together from sides and top. Check screwing of temporary second plate on top of the two joins as a brace.
Remove the outer lengths of floor sheeting.
Select suitable bracing wood
Using 2 levels true up wall and brace wall securely in place.
Check bottom plate is flush with edge of joists and nail plate into joists. 2 nails for each joist. Use grease.
Line up cut outs for bracing across two wall sections - cut in any missing sections. Fit bracing and tack in place. DO NOT NAIL IN SECURELY.
Cross bracing can temporarily hold the end wall in place at the corners.
Insulation for roof arrived today.

Construction of North side wall (West end)
The wall frame for the western half of the North side wall will be commenced today.
Remember to take photographs during the day to record construction progress.
The steps taken to achieve this will be:
Second Section to be commenced today
Take bottom and top plates and cut to length required. Bottom plate should end half way across the second last joist. Top plate should be longer according to George's plan.
Start measuring and pencil marking Bottom plate from Kitchen end. (Mark on 3 sides. 450mm centres to 35 mm studs.
Set window back from Reading Room end wall 1 metre.

Measure, cut and fit 1 row of noggins. Use grease

Bracing is to be placed in V shape on frame midway between window and kitchen end. Find point for kitchen end and mark studs with pencil. Remove bracing.
Cut bracing sections and chisel out. (Rodney)

Raise wall and slide in to place. Hold securely in place.

Bracing is to be placed in V shape on frame midway between window and kitchen end. Find point for kitchen end and mark studs with pencil. Remove bracing.

Place bracing back in track and tack into place. DO NOT NAIL SECURELY.
Raise wall and slide in to place. Hold securely in place.
Remove the outer lengths of floor sheeting.
Select suitable temporary bracing wood (Rodney and David Igracki).
Using 2 levels true up wall and brace wall securely in place.
Check bottom plate is flush with edge of joists and nail plate into joists. 2 nails into each joist. Use grease.
Move any floor sheeting needed and lay at Reading Room end.
Second Section
Take bottom and top plates and cut to length required. Bottom plate should end half way across the second last joist. Top plate should be longer according to George's plan.
Start measuring and pencil marking Bottom plate from Kitchen end. (Mark on 3 sides. 450mm centres to 35 mm studs.
Set window back from Reading Room end wall 1 metre. If need be measure this on the opposite wall to find a position relative to the nearest joist.
Once the window positions is set, allow 10 mm on each side for the first stud positions. Use 45 mm studs. The first studs will sit under the lintel the second the lintel will butt into.
Mark both stud positions on the bottom plate and only the outer
stud positions on the top plate.

Skew nail ends of plates together from sides and top. Check with Rodney about screwing a temporary second plate on top of the two joins as a brace.
Remove the outer lengths of floor sheeting.
Select suitable bracing wood (Rodney and David Igracki).
Using 2 levels true up wall and brace wall securely in place.
Check bottom plate is flush with edge of joists and nail plate into joists. 2 nails for each joist. Use grease.
Line up cut outs for bracing across two wall sections - cut in any missing sections. Fit bracing and tack in place. DO NOT NAIL IN SECURELY.

Cut all Studs to length. Wall height 2750 less 90mm (2 X 45)
