Created 12 March 2003

12 March 2003
PC1A
Problem: we cannot log on to LAN 2 email server
Cause: a power failure that lasted for more than just a few seconds, that caused the email server to 'hang'
Solution: reset LAN 2 email server by pressing the reset button.
After email server reset: restart individual LAN 2 machines
Problem: when we add a new LAN 2 email user, he or she cannot receive emails sent by other users that use the 'all' function
Solution: within the LAN 2 administration menu, add new users also as member of the email user group
Kamfatt will do this next week Tuesday or Wednesday
Problem: PC1A running out of disk space
Cause: C: drive is getting old, some areas of C: drive inaccessible due to wear and tear
Solution: replace C: drive before it will crash
See Frank to obtain hard disk, 2GB or 4 GB is enough
Kamfatt will install the hard disk
Note: the C: drive is to be used for programs only
The Buddhist Discussion Centre (Upwey) Ltd. database is safely stored on the D: drive; at present this disk is working fine
Registry Problem: This will be solved after installation of a new hard disk as C: drive and reloading Windows
PC4A
Problem: running very slow
Cause: PC4A set to work as a network machine which makes it slow because it keeps looking to find a network
Solution: Set PC4A to run as a desktop computer instead of a network computer
This was done by
going to the control panel
system
system properties
performance
file system
set as desktop computer
click ok
Further suggestions to speed up PC4A:
Acquire a 56K modem to enable faster Internet connection
Kamfatt will bring a 56K modem next week and install
Defrag PC: This also will add to the speed of a machine - carried out on PC4A
Note: it is NOT advisable to delete 'cookies' on an Internet machine as 'cookies' act like shortcuts that make websites load faster once you have visited them. 'Cookies' make very small file sizes.
General comments:
PC4A is our 'best' machine, it has 64MB RAM, is a Pentium II, and it is also our most important machine
It is advisable to run a defrag every 6 months for all of our PCs
Important: save data on LAN machines to the I: drive
New Hard disc drive
A 2.1 GB hard disc drive has been donated to the Centre by Frank Carter and has been placed on PC1A marked for Kamfatt's attention.
This hard disc was requested in the recent report by Kamfatt for the purposes of upgrading the hard disc capacity of one of our computers.
Rodney Johnson has fixed the back step.

Suite 10A
The conversion of Suite 10A for use as an office by the Treasurer was commenced on Friday 9 March 2003.
During Friday and the following Saturday computer items which have been stored in Suite 10A were moved offsite to the storage area under Pennie White's residence.
On Sunday and Monday the desk and shelves were moved and the area was cleaned and tidied. The photocopier has been moved onto the shelving unit to make more desk space available.
On Monday evening the Treasurer's computer, files and archives were moved from the library into their new location in Suite 10A.
Members who helped with this project were Frank Carter, Julian Bamford and Lisa Nelson.
The last work remaining is for the entrance door jam and lock to be fitted. This will be done during the weekend commencing 15 March 2003.
Construction of New Fence along Southern Boundary
A quote has been obtained to build a new fence along our Southern boundary fenceline. This is an approximate distance of 47 metres.
The cost of construction of a 5'4" high fence is $1880 incl. GST. This cost will be shared by our neighbour Clive making our contribution $940 incl. GST. (We can claim back the GST component)
The Buddhist Discussion Centre (Upwey) Ltd will pay for this cost as it is our vehicles which enter and leave the property at night and may shine lights into our neighbours windows.
The occasion when we can best afford the cost of this construction is immediately after the Mother's Day Flower Stall when we will have approximately $2000 profit from the stall.
Our neighbour is agreeable to this timing as it gives both parties an opportunity to prepare the site prior to construction commencing. On our side of the existing old fence we must clear away bushes, small trees and shrubs to a depth of 2 feet.
This clearing work needs to commence by early April 2003.
Member Amber Svensson has commenced her VCE studies in 2003. She plans to study medicine at University in 2005 and become a practicing Doctor.
Member Evelin Halls has moved to Upwey on Saturday 5 April 2003. Thank you to Peter Boswell, Roger Bowen, David Ley and Julian Bamford for helping with the move, and thank you to Pennie White who provided lunch for everyone.
Evelin held a puja to bless her new on Friday 4 April 2003, at 7.15pm. Peter Boswell and Pennie White attended the chanting.
