Selection of Web Hosting Services - Need for acceptance of CGI Scripting

We have search engines on four of our websites, since July 2001. Web hosts provide these search engines. Christopher Shannon delivered technical support in setting up and running the search engine on www.bdcu.org.au.

We have added a search engine to our sites at www.bdcublessings.net.au, www.bdcu.org.au, www.buyresolved.com.au and www.bddronline.net.au to help researchers. Click ‘Search this site’ on the Home page and wait for the search engine dialogue box to appear. Type in a word and click the ‘search’ button. Then wait for a list of references to appear. Click on the reference that you wish to look at. Once you are at that page, select ‘Edit’ then select ‘Find (on this page)’ and enter your Word in again in the dialogue box that appears. The word you are looking for will be highlighted throughout the document.

When looking for new web hosting services for our future websites, the following is very important:

Some websites do not support cgi scripting.

We want web hosts that support cgi scripting.

CGI Scripting is much more advanced than HTML.

Four of our websites have a CGI based search engine:

www.bdcu.org.au

www.bdcublessings.net.au

www.bddronline.net.au

www.buyresolved.com.au

Virus Hoax - How to avoid being part of a hoax

Computer Associates, who produce the VET virus protection software we use, has provided this warning to customers in their regular newsletter:

"How to Avoid Being Part of a Hoax

Do not forward unconfirmed warnings. (spread via E-mail)

A common characteristic of a hoax (message) is that it asks you to forward the warning on to as many people as possible. This is how the hoax spreads itself.

If you receive any form of message that asks you to forward it on to others, you should check out the accuracy of the message before forwarding it on to anyone else, otherwise you may help perpetuate a hoax.

How can you check a message for accuracy?

You can check a hoax page (on the web) to see if it is a known hoax, or you can ask your Anti-Virus or security software vendor. Our technical support staff are happy to help you identify possible hoaxes.

Check the Vet website first.

www.vet.com.au/zoo and click on the "Hoaxes" link.

Copy this information and give it out to your staff/students.

Hoaxes are everybody's problem - arming your users with the means to help

prevent the spread of hoaxes will help keep your organisation free of them."

PHOTOLAN

Research and development for our new PHOTOLAN, hardware development and software continues.

6. FUNDRAISING APPEALS AND SPECIAL PROJECTS

Funds to Dhammarajika Orphanage

On 27 June 2001 USD $129.25 was sent to Dhammarajika Orphanage by telegraphic transfer.

A4 Paper Fundraiser

The A4 paper purchased last year from our A4 Paper Fundraiser is nearly finished.

In order to maintain a reliable supply of A4 paper for the year ahead we need to raise $700. This money will allow us to purchase a minimum of 125 reams of A4.

This way of purchasing our paper was very successful for us as we always had paper available and we saved money by purchasing at a discount price.

Members are requested to contribute to ensure we achieve this fundraising target.

Rose Bush Sales Fundraiser

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July 2001 approximately 3000 roses were collected by our Members from Australian Roses 215 Glenfern Road, Upwey. Thank you to the owner of Australian Roses, Mr Les Day who so kindly donated these resources.

Our rose sales to Members by Sunday 15 July totals $750. This amount was from sales made to eleven Members.

anita svensson is in charge of the orders for the roses and frank carter is in charge of delivery of the roses.

MEMBERS’ DISCOUNT

Members will be given 4 rose bushes of their choice of colour from the PBR category. Members can also purchase at a 50% discount additional roses from the colours which do not have copyrights.

The discounted price is $5.00 per rose bush including gst.

Public sales

Public sales will commence a fortnight from today, Friday 3 august 2001.

Sales can be made to the public for $10.00 per rose bush including gst.

There is a bulk purchase discount. Purchases of 100 rose bushes will be given 8 additional rose bushes for free.

The Benefit-Cost Ratio on beverages

The benefit-Cost ratio which is also known as the Profitability index is the present net value of all future expected cash flows divided by the initial cash investment. If this ratio is greater than 1.0 the project may be accepted.

Because of gas & electricity costs associated with the John D. Hughes Reading Room, we have decided to collect a token 20 cents (including GST) per cup Coffee, Tea, Fruit Juice and Soft drink supplied to Members, which costs our organisation money. We do not make a profit at this price, however this helps reimburse some of our operating costs. We estimate there is about 25,000 of these type of drinks served per year. So, at a nominal 20 cents per drink we would raise $5,000 per annum. This would increase the profitability index to an acceptable figure. Water is

free.

The Sangha and Teachers are not to be charged. Most other visitors will be asked to contribute 20 cents or more to help meet our increased running cost which arises from the new facility.

User pays applies to Members in this area. To condition Members we are placing a Dana jar on the present dining table. We start the collection process on Monday 9 July 2001.

From the 9th to the 15th July 2001, these jars brought in a total of $12.45. Milk was purchased for $6.55. This has been noted by the Treasurer. If you use this money to buy milk please place the receipt in the jar. State on the receipt that the money was from the jar. If you wish to donate milk, please place a receipt in the jar with your name on the receipt stating that this is a donation.

We are building a new CGR database with Microsoft Access 97 to save time and improve performance and to keep an accurate record of our data. We are going to bring all address and mailing lists into one CGR database.

We can establish as many specified mailing lists and address databases as we like, but we really only want those we need. We want to enter an address only once with a choice given whether we want to put the address onto a mailing list, and if so, which one.

Work is in progress to find out what the correct mailing lists will be.

Sariputta Room

We have obtained a 1000 gallon water tank to complete the storm water drainage system of the Sariputta Room. Once installed we will arrange for the final inspection certificate from the Shire building inspector.

Electricity connection to Suite 10, Suite 10A and Suite 11

We recently obtained a quote from the electrician to have electricity connected to Suite 10, Suite 10A and Suite 11. This will increase the usefulness and accessibility of these buildings

substantially.

The price quoted was $1490 inc. GST. We have accepted this quote and will pay for the connection with $1000 being donated by Rilla Oellien and $500 from initial sales of roses bushes.

The quote is based on us digging all the trenches for the cable ourselves.

Members have been digging the trench with instructions from Frank Carter. Members who helped in this work were Rilla Oellien, Rodney Johnson, Brent Kerr, Julian Bamford, Frank Carter, Soffiel Verstraete and Phillip Svensson.

In order that Members in the future will not dig into this cable and electrocute themselves the following safety system will be installed.

The electrical cable is contained in a plastic conduit and runs at a depth of 450mm below the surface. At 250mm below the surface above the electrical cable we will run a second plastic conduit which is empty.

Persons who dig in this location in the future will find the upper conduit and stop digging in this spot recognising it is the route of the electrical cable. Even if they damaged the upper conduit they would not be harmed.

The digging work will be completed next weekend. Members are requested to please help.

Fire Wood

In order that sufficient supply of split fire wood is maintained Members are requested to split some wood every week.
