Venerable Phra Suthichoke

Thank you to Venerable Phra Suthichoke of Bangkok Thailand, who has been healing our Teacher John D. Hughes over the last 6 months. John D. Hughes visited Venerable Phra Suthichoke at his Temple, when John was in Thailand in December 2000, attending the 21st WFB conference.

Jocelyn Hughes and Julie O’Donnell visited Venerable Phra Suthichoke in Thailand and presented him with a framed photograph of himself. Venerable Phra Suthichoke signed the photograph and returned it to John D. Hughes.

Thank you Ajarn, please continue to heal our Teacher. SADDHU SADDHU SADDHU

Study Areas

Screen 1 Study Area #1 - Suite 2 - BDC(U) Ltd. Office

Screen 2 Study Area #2 - Salon D'Or - JDH office

Screen 3 Study Area #3 - Geology Museum - Suite 4 - JDH & Associates Pty Ltd.

Screen 4 Study Area #4 - Sariputta Room - JDH office

On Sunday 27 May 2001, as part of the re-development of the Reading Room, Suite 1, JDH had the glass display cabinet removed from the reading room, relocated to Fragrant Corner, and the aluminum display cabinet, from the Emerald Pavilion, installed in the Reading Room.

The display cabinet holds the Prajna Paramita image (relocated from the Library), the Four Heavenly Musicians, which look to the North (relocated from Study Area #2) and four rare Tibetan hand written Dharma scrolls, previously stored in a precious wooden trunk in the Salon D'Or.

The precious items sit upon a piece of polished white marble.

The trunk is stored below the precious items in the lower section of the display cabinet.

Offerings of flowers were made to the Prajna Paramitta, to the Sangha, and to the Four Heavenly Musicians.

The front of the cabinet is protected by plate glass, the right side will be fitted with perspex, and a Monk’s robe hangs over the South side of the cabinet.

A notice is displayed on the inside of the display cabinet which states:

To Enter the Classical Learning Stream Here.

First Complete Speed Reading Training.

Monday to Friday 10.00am and 2.00pm

The Reading room is furnished with three comfortable office chairs and small tables. Both tables have polished white marble tops. A small pot plant and a bowl of water with a floating flower were placed on the tables as offerings to the Deva of the Reading Room Devas.

JDH was assisted in this Reading Room project by Julie O'Donnell, Lisa Nelson, Julian Bamford, Vincenzo Cavuoto, David Igracki, Philip Svensson and Rodney Johnson.

The next step in the Reading Room upgrade will be the relocation of the organ from the Reading Room.

Thank you to our Teacher for creating this beautiful space in which to read and study the Buddha Dhamma.

John D. Hughes Increases in Wellness

The specialist attending to John D. Hughes, Mr Metzner has reported that John has had a fast recovery. The tumor on his prostate is no longer active. The treatment has been highly successful and the specialist will see John again in 6 months time.

Thank you to all the human and heavenly healers.

Special thanks to Venerable Phra Suthichoke of Bangkok, Thailand who has been healing our Teacher over the last 6 months. John D. Hughes met Ajarn in Thailand, while attending the WFB conference in December 2000.

International Conference on Religious Cooperation, Taipei, Taiwan

John D. Hughes has been invited to attend this great conference by The Buddhist Association of R.O.C, World Chinese Buddhist Sangha Congress.

The purpose of this conference is to “ facilitate mutual understanding and cooperation among different religions, combining efforts to broaden human welfare and enhance wholesome religious activities”.

The Conference is to be held from 18 September 2001 to 21 September 2001.

8. CURRENT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INTERESTS

  1. John D. Hughes will continue to develop the Four Study Areas

  2. John D. Hughes will continue to add to the Paper on the Geology Museum operations entitled ‘A New Australian Industry’. This represents a new industry for Australia.

  3. Exploration of ways to generate standby electricity for our LAN.

  4. CGR will train Members in statistical software packets and Time Planning as these will be used as Key Performance Indicators for Corporate Governance and Reporting.

  5. Mapping of the pH of the garden site.

  6. Program PHOTOLAN using Linux.

  7. Because the new Canon FB00P scanner scans photographs three times faster and with better resolution than the earlier model we have, we will be using this as our standard for our PHOTOLAN and website feeds.

  8. The digital camera works better with new batteries according to experiments conducted by J. Bamford. We intend to obtain a second digital camera to set up in Suite 10A which is the IT service Centre. Brendan Hall estimates he should be processing 50 digital images per week from archive photographs. He needs two persons to help him.

  9. Locate financial software suitable for five-year planning projections.

  10. Provide Members with selling techniques for our web sites.

Using our resources wisely

Frank Carter and Vincenzo Cavuoto repaired two wheel barrows today, combining parts from four dilapidated wheelbarrows. The first required combining a good base with a better body, and the second taking the good wheel from the third and putting it with the solid body and frame of the second barrow.

We now have two wheel barrows in good working order. Well done Frank and Vince.

Dandenong Ranges Cultural Community Centre (DRCCC) Car Parking on Tuesday Evenings

Members are reminded not to park their cars in the Centre’s driveway or in Brooking Street on Tuesday evenings.

The purpose of this policy is to reduce traffic and noise and its impact on our neighbours.

We have permission from the Dandenong Ranges Cultural Community Centre (DRCCC) Management to park in the lower of the two car parks located off Matson Drive. Please do not park in the parking spaces in front of the DRCCC as this is used for evening visitors to the DRCCC. Drive past the DRCCC building (old Council building) to the second lower carpark (unsealed).

The exceptions to this policy are for JDH attendants staying at the Centre overnight, Members driving the Sangha to and from the Centre, or special guests.

Upgrading our Centre

The two seater couch located in Fragrance corner, has been given to David and Leila's and shifted to their house. This has opened up space to install the glass sales display cabinet, previously located in the reading room.

The white book display unit, has also been relocated from the Reading Room to Fragrant Corner.

Thank you to Julie O'Donnell for setting up the cabinets as sales display areas.

New position for storage of lawn mower

To declutter the storage area beside and behind the tool trailer, the lawn mower housing has been repositioned to face toward the village square, drums have been moved to behind the trailer, and the area has been tidied and opened up.

Thank you to Frank and Vince.
