Preserving Australia's Multicultural Documentary Heritage
Evelin will attend the Multicultural Documentary Heritage Project Workshop at the National Library of Australia, Canberra, on 9 & 10 June 2004.
This workshop is extremely relevant to the John D. Hughes Collection,
our Heritage Multilingual Reference Library for Buddha Dhamma
Scholars and Practitioners.
News about LAN1 and LAN2
PC1A in the Sariputta Room is now connected to LAN 2!
PC5A in the Library was re-connected to LAN 1,
and, the John D. Hughes Collection catalogue is ready for new
entries!
The work was done by Pennie and Evelin.
PLEASE TAKE GREAT CARE not do damage the cables near the LAN server cabinets. The cabinets cannot be closed at present because some cables that are to short hang out. We will work out what to do with the cabling next.
Damaged LAN2 cable
The LAN 2 cable that runs from the Amber Room to PC14A in the
Library is damaged. We wish to replace this cable with a working
one as PC14A is configured and needed to run on LAN 2.
Please add the replacement of this LAN 2 cable to our task list.
Win Zip 9.0
Win Zip 9.0 is installed on our Internet machine, PC4. We were able to download the latest Win Zip version for free as we are registered users.
When you use Win Zip, you can press the F1 key for help at any time.
PC4 disk space
The disk space on PC4 is down to 75MB. This has occurred due to a large amount of external emails that have come in and are being stored. Our external emails stored on PC4 occupy 274MB of the disk space. We need to remove the emails from this PC.
This is a problem because the PC will soon stop functioning properly. This PC will not be able to handle even a few more large emails or photographs etc. because it has no more space to store and run the programs. Although at present PC4 is running well, we must ensure its continued running well by creating more space.
The solution is to take old emails off and store them elsewhere as soon as possible.
Modems and message banks
If the modem you want to use has no dial tone despite everything is connected and configured correctly, you may have a message on your telephone message bank. When there is a message left on your phone, the modem will not connect untile the message is cleared.
This has happened today on PC4. The modem didn't connect until it was found out that a message was left. After listening to the phone message by dialling 101 with the telephone, the modem worked.
This will only happen if the modem and telephone share a phone line. If the modem has a dedicated line it will not be affected by message banks.
edharma website
Our new website www.edharma.org is currently being constructed by Evelin. The official launching date will be announced soon.
The dedication on this website reads:
"May the merits generated from this website accrue to the Buddhist Discussion Centre (Upwey) Ltd. and Chan Academy to continue to fruit the vision and work of the Founder Master John David Hughes."
Access database
Our Access database is now being updated to make it more user
friendly. We thank Mitra for her help in this area.
Occupational Health and Safety Bulletins (OH&S Bulletin) provides a communication channel for the flow of information about OH&S matters to all Members of the Buddhist Discussion Centre (Upwey) Ltd. and are a record of our OH&S matters.
Members create and develop OH&S Bulletins in accordance with relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidelines.
We publish our OH&S Bulletins within the Brooking Street Bugle print version as well as on our BSB Online website. We will issue an annual special edition of the BSB for Occupational Health and Safety that contains our up-to-date OH&S Handbook. We will run an annual OH&S orientation program that each Member will undertake.
OH&S is an urgent matter.
OH&S is everyone's business.
